Midtown tunnel. Not cool.
Yestarday, as I was riding my bike home from work, I heard the
screaming sirens and blarring horns of a 10 ton firetruck race through
my skull. I was half way over the Pulaski bridge parallel with the
entrance to the midtown tunnel. As I scanned the air to find the truck
the noise became even louder. Finally locating the truck on the LIE
below me, I realized it was going into the midtown tunnel. Full sirens,
horns, high speed, the whole 9 yard fire drill thing. This morning I
saw no news of any incidents in the tunnel. I read no reports of foul
play. I have a hard time believing the truck was responding to a call
on the other side of the tunnel. Doesn't Manhattan have their own fire departments?
