Hair today, gone tomorrow (or here tomorrow)

It seems incredible that there is one group of scientists who have dedicated their lives to treatments for growing hair on men and there is another completely different group of scientists dedicated to killing removing hair on women.

I think the hair growth scientists should send the hair removal scientists all the data that has failed them in the past.

Aside from the dichotemy of these two groups, the obsession with hair in this country is out of control. We are fighting a losing battle that nature will continue to win. If we all accepted the fact that men loose their hair and women sometimes have a little hair on their lip we could get much more done. Like, cure cancer or HIV or finish reparing the LIE. I am sure some of those scientists know how to shovel dirt.

travels - in florida

At the edges of my vision I could see bright sunlight and puffy white clouds. Shaking my head I refocused on the bow of my kayak to face my current reality. An enormous, black cloud lay in front of me as I sit still in a thin,14 foot, plastic, craft off the coast of the Florida Keys.

The GA(y)TES

I went to the Gates in central park today. I cannot bash Christo because he realized a work that was in progress for 20 years. The Gates are impressive because of their color and abundence in the park. I hav eto say that the "saffron" is just plain orange. I touche dteh fabric. Seemes pretty regular. The frame that the fabric is hung on is plastic as is the base. It is all set in a stone block but that isn't very attractive either.

It was cool to see where the gates cross the bridges and tunnels of central park because the gates would and and then continue on the otherside. I would image that an arial view of the park would make for an excellent understanding of their entire work. I have yet to get to that vantage point but will try before the week is up.

In the end everyone who can, should go see it. The damn man took 20 years to get it their. If you are remotely interested in art, get on a train and get to the park.

Big C and the crew say, "Peace, we outtie"

As the brasilian tour comes to an end the curtain does not close without a few last stories.

Before travelling to Rio it seems that the group had a blast dancing a long side of the truck with a band on top oif it(forgot what Ant called that).

Took a 2 hour boat ride to get lunch guided by a 10 year old boy.

Were jipped out of snorkling because of the tide.

Rode horses through a rainforest, filled with rain.

Had an adventure in 3rd world overpopulation.

And gorged themselves at a meat buffet complete with icecream sundaes.

Once in Rio the team turned to the beach for some R&R. They traveled to the statue of Christ, the most recognized monument in Rio.

Then they boarded a red eye and flew home. Well all but one of them flew home.

Zaza stayed behind in a typical zaza move. Never wanting the fun to end Joe is macking in Rio creating even more good memories.

Sounds like it was a blast. I know I can't wait for the pictures and stories that go accompony them.

Important Warning

As I was unpacking boxes last night I came across a clear rubbermaid container that I had used to pack some sweaters in. As I popped the lid off and placed it top-down on my bed I noticed a warning label on the inside lid. Having packed the box so quickly before leaving San Francisco I had inadvertantly missed the warning and could have easily put myself and the contains of the box in danger had I packed the box differently than intended.

The label was simple. It showed a line drawing of a child sitting inside the container with the lid leaning half closed over his head. Around the line drawing was a large red circle with a slash through it. As I examined the warning label closer it raised a few questions that were not clearly answerd. Was the label infering that a clear box should not be used to store children because sunlight can still discolor the child? Was the label implying that boxes smaller than the child needing storage should not be used because a tight seal would not be created and freshness may be compomised? Perhaps it was just letting us know that this particular box was not suitable for child storage and that we should visit Rubbermaids website to find the product that does allow child storage.

If we need labels that tell us not to put our children in boxes we should start applying the thinking behind this label to our everyday lives. I am sure "no children in the trunk", "no children in the toilet" and " no children in the garbage can" stickers would not be as acceptable. That is common sense right? According to the 11 o'clock news, apparently not.

Think people. Think.

Josh wished on his second day he could blend in more. Joe has been heavy on the internet doing his do diligence to send picture updates. Anthony and Kelly, from the looks of this picture, have just been partying.

So far they have been in Salvador. Anthony threw up on a 2 day excursion to an island off the coast. They had a crazy b-day dinner for Josh with Lobster and tons of other seafood. And they scored the t-shirts you see in the pic which allowed them to dance in the parade alongside on eof the floats.

Looks like they are getting along just fine.

Although the reality now has reminents of the land I visited and I can see things differently now that I have had my eyes opened even wider than they were before.

new and used

this blog site won't refresh my template. What's up with that. Nothing more frustrating than things that are supposed to ease your life making them more complicated.

Back from the left

So I am back now 5 days from San Francisco. Things are just the same as when I left. I love the Brooklyn commute so far. It has that real neighborhood feel that Frisco had. Jury is still out on the convienience.

Rojeh and I had a blast on our way across the country. Death Valley sand dunes took top prizes and the BBQ in Tuscaloosa still reigns champ.

Peace in Texas!
